Lauren Gunderson

My name is Lauren Gunderson and I've been writing for the theatre since I was 16. Noticed for my interpretation of science and history onstage, I'm glad to have this space to share my work and my inspiration with you.

"At the relatively young age of 25, writer-actress-activist Gunderson has amassed an impressive list of honors and awards for forward-thinking works (“Baby M,” “Leap,” “Parts They Call Deep”) that grapple with science, history and feminism. Atlanta’s own Eve Ensler? Absolutely." - The Sunday Paper, May 2007

"The verdict: Lauren Gunderson shows signs of preternatural brilliance,"

"Carrying the torch for a new generation of Atlanta playwrights is Lauren Gunderson," - Alliance Theatre, Feature Story, Feb. 2006

"There's no denying she's one of the most formidably talented voices to emerge here in years."

"It's Gunderson's undeniable talent that have earned her acclaim,"

"LEAP features splendid language and easy confidence with heady material. Think Tom Stoppard, not Sex in the City,"

"Gunderson is a prodigy,"

"PARTS THEY CALL DEEP, is a little gem. It is easy to imagine future theatrical success for this year's YPI winners,"

"I saw [Parts They Call Deep] last night and it was incredible! The script, direction, set, everything was flawless. We're going back, you guys shouldn't miss this one!"

"In her compelling new show Sus Manos, Lauren Gunderson takes Shakespeare’s Othello and not only crafts some fine parallels to its themes but also weaves in some of its events and even includes it as a silent film within her play. Gunderson gives us some really fantastically nuanced characters in this play."

"Translated from Spanish, “sus manos” literally means “her hands”, and the beauty with which this symbolic title is currently translated onto the stage in Lauren Gunderson’s new play is simply striking. As an inventive, sensitive, and beguiling expression of conflicting emotions and objectives, I’ve got to hand it to Sus Manos. "

"[8 1/2 x 11: Live and Uncensored is a]grab bag of world premieres boasts work by significant American playwrights ("Urinetown" writer Greg Kotis), emerging artists with distinctive voices (Caridad Svich, Alice Tuan) and Atlanta playwrights of considerable promise (Lauren Gunderson, Steve Yockey).
